I was in high school, taking Trigonometry. Regularly, I'd bring my Trigonometry book there to do homework and have dinner. There was this one night, I was at my Grandma's with nothing to do. But she had a TV. So I put on WGN, at least I believe it was WGN. It was movie night that night, so that supports a Saturday night.
David Cronenberg's The Fly (1986) was on, and maybe I was just a tad too young to be watching a movie like that. But somehow it was the perfect night. I watched a man transform from a curious, intelligent human into something else. I was enthralled. Slowly, as Seth Brundle's body absorbed the effects of merging with a fly, a mere fly, he became stronger, more virile. He had a greater appetite for all things, including food, knowledge, and sex. It cost him everything.
That movie stays with me. I'm very fond of it, and I must have been the right age that it stuck almost 30 years later. It's 2026, the 40th anniversary of The Fly.
.
I used crude photoshop skills at the time, but now I can rightfully present my alter of Jeff Goldblum in The Fly (1986), as Magic: The Gathering's Delver of Secrets // Insectile Aberration.

Happy Spooky Season, y'all.
